LOD is a movement reporting on, assessing, and promoting activities that are concerned with the protection of animals, the Earth, and the oceans. Inspired by the history of various precedent movements that advocated for liberation on various grounds, LOD was established on the basis of an educational account on TikTok in 2021. This account was created with the aim of promoting the liberation of animals and the Earth. The account quickly gained traction, drawing widespread attention and support from individuals concerned about ecological destruction and animal exploitation.

Over time, a significant number of fans expressed interest in contributing to LOD in positive and responsible ways. To this end, LOD grew beyond social media to form a  interdisciplinary community of researchers, creators, and activists committed to improving education, awareness, and conservation activities.

Today, Liberation or Death has over 50,000 followers and is a beacon in the animal rights and earth conservation community
